Kirkland Hosts the Junior League Softball World Series at Everest Park | EASTSIDE ELEVATE

Updated: Aug 12

Kirkland’s Global Softball Stage | The Junior League Softball World Series

Kirkland, renowned for its rich history of Little League World Series victories and numerous state softball and baseball titles, transforms every July into a buzzing international hub. This quiet neighborhood becomes the stage for the Junior League Softball World Series, one of Little League International’s seven iconic World Series events, hosted annually at Everest Park and welcoming teams from around the world.

A Global Showcase for Young Talent

Six U.S. Regional Tournament winners compete alongside squads from Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe, Africa, and Latin America, vying for the world championship. This tournament features 12- to 14-year-old players and is broadcast worldwide on ESPN+, spotlighting Kirkland’s vital role in youth sports development. Since 1999, the Washington District 9 committee has been dedicated to hosting this event, with this year’s qualifying teams including players from Kirkland National and Kirkland American Little Leagues.

The City of Kirkland is actively collaborating with Little League International™ and Tournament Director Steve Allen to secure a new five-year agreement. This partnership will enable ongoing investments in Everest Park, ensuring the tournament remains a memorable experience for players and visitors alike.

Celebrating Community and Champions

This year’s series featured first pitches by notable local celebrities, sports icons, and elected officials, including Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon, UW & USA Softball Coach Heather Tarr, Super Bowl Champion Cliff Avril, and members of the 1982 Little League World Series championship team. Their participation underscores the event’s significance and the city’s strong support for girls and women in sports.

A Personal Connection and Looking Ahead

As a proud girl-dad, I couldn’t be more excited to support this iconic Kirkland event and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Girls with Game™—a movement dedicated to empowering girls in baseball and softball. Hosting the Junior League Softball World Series highlights Kirkland’s enduring passion for youth sports and unites players and fans from across the globe in pursuit of excellence.

If you missed out this summer, I highly recommend planning a trip to Everest Park next year to witness who will lift the coveted world title. It’s an experience that showcases the best of youth sports and community spirit.
