EASTSIDE ELEVATED REVEALS: Pushing Boundaries in Their Personal Residence, featuring Highlands Builders Group

Welcome to Eastside Elevated, where we celebrate exceptional homes, inspired design, and innovative builders. Today, we're thrilled to share an exclusive look into a stunning Highlands Builders Group residence crafted for their own family—an inspiring "REVEAL" into how a builder develops their personal residence.

Highlands Builders Group: A Personal Home Made Perfect

When Adam and Bria Wanichek of Highlands Builders Group decided to build their own Kirkland retreat, they didn't hold back on creativity or detail. Nestled near scenic Lake Washington and just a walk from downtown Kirkland, this home is a reflection of their vision—both functional and refined.

Design That Reflects Style & Function

Bria expresses how her favorite art piece, a Twiggy artwork by These Fine Walls, set an aesthetic tone. With their hands-on approach, they incorporated bold finishes: black interior doors, gold hardware, textured surfaces—all experimenting with new ideas in their own space to refine their craft.

Their strong relationships with talented subcontractors allowed for custom details and fresh material choices, shaping a home that blends their traditional-meets-edgy style with modern touches. For instance, the striking pivot door—an inspired piece sourced from Los Angeles—was a late-night purchase that transformed the entryway’s impact.

Views, Layout & Versatility

The home’s design prioritized panoramic Kirkland and Lake Washington views—so immersive they influenced the entire house plan. Adam climbed onto the roof before purchase to confirm the view, ensuring it became a central feature. The open, inviting main floor was designed for both entertaining and working remotely, with flexible spaces that adapt to family needs.

A fun surprise? A kids’ banquette in the scullery, originally meant for a sink, now perfect for breakfast—adding a cozy bistro mood with a view.

Distinctive Spaces & High-End Finishes

The kitchen is an eye-catching centerpiece: Taj Mahal quartzite countertops paired with bold appliances from Wolf and SubZero and antique touches. Fixtures by Arteriors, chosen with design help from Jen Kowalski of Six Walls Interior Designs, add character. The lighting—like the smoked-glass Smythe chandelier—sets a sophisticated ambiance.

Their outdoor living areas feature sleek Europlast stucco in Nova White, perfect for relaxing or entertaining, complemented by custom silk curtains and cozy lighting fixtures that add elegance indoors and out.

Luxury Details & Personal Touches

The primary suite maximizes natural light and lake vistas, complemented by a private balcony and luxe marble details. The entryway doubles as a peaceful workspace thanks to built-in shelves and calming design, while a wine wall adds a stylish entertainment element.

For the kids, personalized rooms with stained bunk beds, a climbing wall, and a playful pink-tiled bedroom make this house a full family hub. Durable hardwood floors, outdoor turf with a mini putting green, and easy-maintenance materials keep pace with busy family life.

Custom Lessons from the Pros

Reflecting on their journey, Adam and Bria emphasize that building their home was about pushing creative boundaries and making intentional choices—an experience made better with the right team.

Their advice? Collaborate closely with architects early, work with knowledgeable agents like Max Rombakh to find the perfect lot, and choose experienced contractors to keep your project on track.

This home is more than just four walls—it's a thoughtfully designed sanctuary that truly reflects the Wanicheks’ style and needs. We’re inspired by their journey and the beautiful results.
